Your wedding budget. Planning a wedding: part two

08 March 2010 11h45 | Ekudeni

Ensuring that you do not compromise your finances is important when planning a wedding. Budgeting before hand and sticking to the budget is important and although other costs may arise along the way, by budgeting properly and keeping an eye out for hidden costs, you should not have to adjust or increase the budget drastically.

Once a budget has been decided on, you will have a good understanding of how far you are able to go with regards to the number of guests, decorations etc.

It is always a good idea to break down the budget in the beginning phases of planning a wedding so that you have a clear understanding of what needs to be spent where. This step of course goes hand in hand with getting quotes.

If you are not using a wedding planner then it’s a great idea to follow some sort of a worksheet budget. Either way, a worksheet allows you to keep tabs on how much you have spent and how close you are to reaching your limit.

There are of course no rules as to what needs to be included. Each wedding is unique to the couple and therefore your budget may be allocated to various other costs. There is an abundance of ideas to choose from when planning a wedding.

No matter how much or how little you choose to spend when planning a wedding, it is very important to ensure that you are always on the look- out for hidden costs. Unexpected costs can pile up and affect a budget resulting in you having to cut back on other important costs.

Over extending your budget is not necessary. Instead of paying exorbitant amounts, shopping around and not being too hasty with decisions will allow you to spend less and receive more.

Drawing up a budget before planning a wedding is the best way to ensure that costs are kept under control and that you and your partner get everything and more that you wish for on your special day.
