Wedding tips for evening affairs

09 March 2010 07h30 | Ekudeni

One of the very first things that a couple needs to do when starting to plan a wedding is set a date and perhaps a time too. Deciding whether to have a day or evening wedding will certainly make a huge difference when it comes to planning the wedding.

An evening wedding hosts the potential for magic and beauty to be enhanced. A wedding and all its intimate details should certainly reflect the couple, how they feel about each other and their commitment to one another.

Evening weddings are usually formal affairs but once again this is the decision of the couple. When planning the evening wedding there are a number of different points to consider.

Lighting

Dim lighting is usually the most flattering at night. By using an array of candles or strings of tiny lights, evening weddings can become a magical experience. Often if the couple chooses to have the reception outside, the small lights compliment the dark starry skies. This creates a romantic ambience that even the sweetest wedding song cannot top.

Chandeliers can act as a great focal point as they provide lighting from one main point. Floating candles can be accompanied by flowers to entertain the eye as guests mingle around ponds, pools or lakes.

Decorations

Great flower arrangements are accentuated by soft lighting and offer a mysteriously fairytale sort of effect. Centre pieces in evening weddings provide the chance for central lighting on each table to illuminate spaces.

Effects

Through using various types of lighting and styles, evening weddings can easily take on various themes. Whether the wedding setting is inside, outside on grass or on the beach, it is easy to transform the space using various objects and ideas.

  • Crystals
  • Mirrors
  • Painted objects
  • Shells
  • Draping
  • Flowers
  • Centre pieces
  • Colours

Other aspects should be considered when planning an evening wedding.

  • Covered area (is there enough space in the event of rain?)
  • Food (is it appropriate the evening and the time of the year?)
  • Is there safe parking?
  • Is it warm enough to have outside? Will guests be comfortable? (Time of the year)

It is important when planning any wedding, whether during the day or night, to make the most of the budget, the space and the ideas presented.

Regardless if it’s a day or evening wedding, finding what is right for the couple is important. At the end of the day, or night, it is ultimately all about the bride and groom anyway.
