Planning a wedding: part one
08 March 2010 10h30 | Ekudeni
If you have recently become engaged, naturally the next step is to start thinking about and planning the details of your wedding day. Throughout the next three articles we will be looking closely at the details of wedding planning.
- Deciding on a budget
- Choosing a venue
- Using the budget as best possible
- Distributing duties
- Looking for hidden costs
The very first step that needs to be taken is choosing a wedding date.
Planning a wedding can be stressful but if it is thought out carefully and the couple follows guidelines that they have set out for themselves, then it should be easier to handle the hiccups along the way.
Planning the overall budget
Deciding on a budget is one of the most important steps to consider when planning a wedding. It is the starting point in the process and gives a couple a solid understanding of how much can be spent.
It is important that the budget does not exceed what the couple can afford. Once the budget is clearly worked out, the wedding planning can begin.
Deciding who participates in the wedding
The Maid of Honour, Bridesmaids and Best Man can do more than organise bachelorette and bachelor parties. If the groom and bride wish so, they can assign tasks and get their wedding party as involved in the wedding planning as possible. This may shorten the couples list of things to do.
Once it is clear as to how many people the budget can cater for, the couple can start choosing a venue that best suits the time of the year, amount of people and theme of the wedding. Looking around for venues is exciting. Once the couple has decided on the venues that they like best, the decision should be made so that it can be reserved and booked.
Deciding on service providers
If the wedding venue does not supply a menu then a caterer needs to be chosen and a menu decided on. This can range from a buffet one course meal to a three course served meal.
There are a number of other services that need to be decided on and booked in advance. If any of the decisions made throughout the wedding planning process change then by booking early, there is time for adjustments or alternatives.
Depending on how basic or extravagant a couple’s wedding is, there are an endless amount of different services that are available.
- Wedding invitation designer
- Wedding decorations/ wedding stylists
- Wedding transport
- Cake
- Music (choosing wedding song)
- Flowers
- Photographers
- Videographers
- Thank you gifts for guests
Wedding planning is a fun process and is something that many couples enjoy doing together. The help of a wedding planner always helps with the small details.
